Silicate paint
Kreidezeit Silicate Paint is a two-component pure silicate paint with potassium water glass as its binder. The paint chemically bonds with mineral substrates, providing exceptional durability and breathability for both interior and exterior applications. It is suitable for use only on untreated lime and lime-cement plasters.

Kreidezeit Silicate Paint is a pure mineral paint system consisting of silicate white and potassium water glass. Unlike dispersion paints, it does not form a film on the surface, but chemically bonds with the substrate (silification), ensuring a very long life and maximum diffusion capacity.

- Completely free from synthetic resins
- Extremely high water vapour permeability (one of the most breathable paints)
- Highly resistant to weather, washing and chemicals
- Strongly alkaline – inhibits mold and bacteria
- Non-flammable and free of emissions
- Suitable for facades with a service life of 20+ years.
Layers and consumption
- Primer: 1 part water glass + 2 parts water (~0,3 l/m²)
- First layer (diluted): according to absorption
- Second layer (topcoat): undiluted
- Additional layer or fixative if required
- Exact consumption depends on the substrate
Substrate
- Mineral, absorbent and free of synthetic additives
- Clean, dry, stable and fat-free
- Only suitable for lime and lime-cement plasters
- New lime plasters: wait 4–6 weeks before painting

. Substrate preparation
- Clean the surface thoroughly of dust and dirt
- Remove loose plaster and repair damages
- Remove the sinter layer (e.g. by acid etching)
- Check the suitability of substrate (make a sample surface)
- Preparing the mix
- Mix the silicate white and potassium water glass as instructed
- Mix mechanically until a uniform mass
- Allow the mixture to swell for at least 30 minutes
- Application
- Apply paint to surface using the „wet on wet“ method
- Work uninterrupted to avoid visible transitions
- Apply at least 3 layers: primer, intermediate layer and topcoat
- Allow a drying time of at least 12 hours between layers
- Conditions and drying
- Working temperature minimum +5 °C
- Avoid direct sunlight, wind and too fast drying
- Protect fresh surface from rain
- Dry enough so dust no longer adheres: 2–3 h
Note:
Silicate paint requires experience – always make a sample surface and adjust the dilutions to suit the substrate.
