Pille 11

Ready 2023
1 / 1

The Pille 11 building is located in the Uus-Veerenni residential quarter of Tallinn – an area with a history dating back to the Middle Ages, when a water channel was located here, which led water from the Ülemiste mill’s reservoir to the city’s drinking water and protective ditches. Later, this place became the home of the Luther furniture factory, where several innovations that influenced the European furniture industry were born. Today, the former industrial area has been replaced by green courtyards, parks and a pedestrian-friendly living environment. Pille 11 is part of a carefully designed urban space, where historical heritage, modern architecture and a high-quality living environment form a single whole.

This project uses 2 products to make all the walls and ceilings, Eico Alterior Matt and Marble-lime paint, structural.

Traditional lime paint Haim

Haim lime paint is a natural lime paint made in a traditional way, based on a lime paste obtained from pure Saaremaa limestone by kiln burning and carefully slaked. The paint consists only of natural ingredients – high-quality hand-burnt lime and water.

The raw material for lime paint comes from the Silurian limestone layers of Saaremaa, which were formed approximately 460 million years ago. To obtain the best quality lime, stromatoporous limestone found in local fields is also collected. Limestone is mainly mined by hand, using traditional working methods and tools. Rocks of different quality are sorted visually during mining, based on the color and properties of the stone.

Limestone is burned in a special traditional lime kiln, where the stone is heated with wood to a temperature of approximately 1100–1300 °C. During this process, the limestone decomposes and quicklime is created. After burning, the lime is allowed to cool slowly and then slaked with water, resulting in a lime paste.

Slaked lime matures in storage pits for 1–2 years, during which time it reaches its best working properties. This long and natural maturing process gives the lime exceptional quality and ensures good coverage, breathability and durability of the lime paint.

Haim lime paint is particularly suitable for the restoration of historic buildings, painting lime plasters and all mineral surfaces where the natural breathability of the materials and a traditional appearance are important. Thanks to its natural composition, the lime paint is environmentally friendly and helps preserve the authentic appearance of buildings.
